The Select Data Folder or Select - Create Data Folder (Path Management) window is a very powerful feature enabling you to easily view and create data in multiple folders. This also simplifies backing up data as well. Refer to Path Management Strategies topic for more information.

First time users!

You MUST select a valid Data Folder location (path) before running program.

The install makes this easy for you - first time use, select the Product Scope 7 - Example Data (highlighted) and click on the Select Data Folder button.

XP example folders

Or you can use the Create Folders Program to create your own data folder (or point to an existing data folder)

An alternative to using the Create Folder Program - when the program is initially run - select a data folder, then Exit the program - at the Exit Alert window - Click on the Yes button.

Exit Alert - You may now exit the program or Select another Data Folder

At the Select - Create Data Folder window, you can create new data folders, modify the current records, or delete Data Folder Location records.

- Add a new data folder or choose an existing data folder to add to Select - Create Data Folder Browse.

- Modify an existing Data Folder Description and/or add a new data folder or choose an existing data folder to current highlighted data folder selection in Select - Create Data Folder Browse. Modifying a data folder location record does NOT modify the actual data folder name.

- Only deletes the Data Folder Description and Data Folder Location reference - This button DOES NOT delete the actual data folder!

- Click on Yes button if you want to delete the Data Folder Description and Data Folder Location reference -  Clicking on the Yes button DOES NOT delete the actual data folder!

Using Select - Create Data Folder window is an easier method to create new data folders, etc - and we recommend that method.

To Add a Data Folder - click on the New button

Data Folder Location: At the Data Folder Location field, you can type in a path or Click on the Choose Path dialog button.

If you type the path, the following are invalid characters and cannot be used.

\ / : * ? " < > |

If the path you type does not exist, you will see this dialog:

Click on the Yes button and the program will create the folder for you.

Choose Path Dialog Button

If you are adding an existing folder location, navigate through the folder tree until you select the folder you want, then click the OK button. Or navigate to a top level folder such as C:\Users\Public\Documents\My Projects\ and add a folder.

An alternative method for creating data folder locations is to create a top level folder location.

For example - C:\Users\Public\Documents\My Projects\

In the Data Folder Description field, type in a '1' (this will make the entry appear at the top of the list), and the name of the top level folder.

With the Top Level Folder highlighted - click on the Copy Data Folder Location to Clipboard button.

Click on the New button.

Click on the Paste from Clipboard to Data Folder Location button.

Type in next level Folder, for example - Business Events (right side of C:\Users\Public\Documents\My Projects\) - Press Tab

Click the Yes button

Type in the Data Folder Description - Click on the OK button.

Exiting the program, or changing to another data folder.

When you exit the program, an exit alert dialog is displayed. If you want to exit the program, click on the OK button, or Press <Enter>.

If you want to do work in another folder, click on the Yes button, (or press the 'y' key) and the Select - Create Data Folder window will be displayed.
